QSYS FIELD NOTES

Better questions make better systems.

Clear, practical thinking for leaders planning Odoo, rescuing a difficult implementation, or deciding what should—and should not—be customized.

READ / QUESTION / DECIDE

Technology is rarely the first decision. Ownership, process, data, controls, and evidence come first.

The Odoo Readiness Brief

Before a demo becomes a project, put the decisions that shape cost, risk, and adoption on one page. The goal is not perfect detail. It is shared clarity.

Work through it with QSystems
  1. 01
    Name the outcome

What should become faster, safer, clearer, or easier to control?

  2. 02
    Name the owners

Who decides the process, owns the data, accepts the result, and supports users?

  3. 03
    Draw the boundary

Which companies, teams, flows, systems, history, and exceptions are inside the first release?

  4. 04
    Define the evidence

What demonstration, reconciliation, security check, and end-to-end scenario will prove readiness?

Lessons from delivery

Three notes worth taking into the next steering meeting.

01 / INTEGRATION

Design for the bad day.

A connector is not finished when the happy path works. Decide how duplicates, timeouts, invalid data, provider downtime, retries, and reconciliation will be handled—and who sees the problem.

Explore reliable integrations
02 / DATA

Migration is an evidence process.

An import log is not acceptance. Agree owners, mappings, cleansing rules, trial runs, totals, exceptions, retained history, and signed reconciliation before cutover.

Plan a controlled migration
03 / CUSTOMIZATION

Make every gap earn its maintenance cost.

Ask whether the requirement creates real operational value, whether configuration can solve it, who owns the rule, how it will be tested, and what happens at the next upgrade.

The decision room

Five questions that expose project risk early.

Use these with your leadership and process owners. If the answers are vague, the project is not ready to rush into configuration.

What business decision should become easier?

Anchor scope to decisions and measurable operating outcomes, not a list of attractive screens.

Where can the process legitimately vary?

Separate necessary company, country, product, or customer variation from habits that should be standardized.

Who owns data quality before and after go-live?

Name accountable business owners for master data, opening balances, migration rules, and ongoing corrections.

What happens when an integration fails?

Define visibility, retry rules, safe duplication controls, reconciliation, escalation, and manual continuity.

What evidence allows the project to progress?

Agree demonstrations, test scenarios, reconciliation totals, security checks, user readiness, and sign-off gates.
